Industry: Aerospace System: Sleeve bending machines # Axis: 2 Valve: Servo Description: This special machine made round sleeves used on aircraft. The exact nature of the use for the sleeves was proprietary. Two hydraulic cylinders were used. One pushed a steel ribbon into a round die and the other came down to cut the metal. The position tolerance for both cylinders was .0005”. The gap in the sleeve had a tolerance of .001” to .002”. Industry: Aerospace System: Titanium Presses # Axis: 4 Valve: Servo Description: A press was designed to mold titanium metal for cowlings on jet aircraft engines. Hydraulic Temposonics feedback servo positioning cylinders used. Industry: Aerospace System: Aircraft Metal Frame Bending Machine Axis #: 7 Valve: Proportional Description: This system bends and stretches metal beams into ellipses. Using hydraulic servo positioning cylinders, hydraulic pressure switches and Temposonics feedback, rings are made for the fuselages of aircraft. Industry: Power Generation System: Boiler Plate BendersAxis #: 4 Valve: Servo Description: A bending machine required a control system that could track 4-14” bore 24” stroke cylinders. The bender was loaded with welded tube panels 30 ft. wide by 40 to 60 ft. long. The bender had die sets that matched the tube size and spacing for different types of steam panels. The cylinders tracked within .030” of each other. At determined positions, the panels were bent for determined angles. These panels were welded at the construction site in sections to form a boiler grid. The accuracy was very important for alignment and welding of the plates. |

Industry: Aerospace
System: Work platform lift systems# Axis: 4Valve: ServoDescription: This system used 4-72” stroke hydraulic cylinders attached to the main platform of an incline ramp. The incline ramp could move in a circular motion. The ramp would be positioned next to Boeing 747 cabin doors and then the main platform would be elevated to a cabin door entrance. The cylinders were tracked to keep the platform level. Once in position, the system hydraulics was turned off and workers could proceed up the ramp and into the aircraft. Hydraulic Temposonics feedback servo positioning cylinders used. Industry: Metal Manufacturing System: Metal Punch Axis #: 3 Valve: Proportional Description: Steel plates were placed on a moving table. The table had 3 tracking cylinders attached to a platen. It was very important that the table remain level during movement and punch cycle. If the system failed, the hydraulics had to be turned off and controlled to prevent the table from twisting. The table would move down to a set of punch dies. Hydraulic Temposonics feedback servo positioning cylinders used. Industry: Plastic Manufacturing System: Plastic rail drill table Axis #: 1 Valve: Proportional Description: System used a 72” stroke hydraulic cylinder with Temposonics. A plastic rail would be mounted on a moving table. The table would move to user defined targets. A drill press would come down on the material and drill a hole. Hydraulic Temposonics feedback servo positioning cylinders used. Industry: Power Generation System: Turbine fin pitch controls Axis #: 1 Valve: Servo Description: Moved fins on water turbines to match water flow. Industry: SteelSystem: Steel shear outfeed tablesAxis #: 4 to 8Valve: Proportional Description: In steel rolling plants there is usually a table positioned at the rear of a metal shear. A coil of steel is placed before a set of rolls. The coil is un-reeled through these rolls and straightened before the shear. The table was lifted in the past by jack-screws. The table had a total load capacity of 10,000 lbs. changing the jack-screws to hydraulic servo control cylinders, the lifting capacity changed by a factor of 6. All cylinders had to be tracked so the table would remain level when moving up and down. Tracking tolerances were kept at .020” between all cylinders. Productivity increased 6 fold. Industry: Wood ProductsSystem: Carriage Knee control systems Axis #: 2-4 Valve: Servo or Proportional Description: Primary log breakdown. Independent tracking of knees and positioning of logs to a saw line. Hydraulic Temposonics feedback servo positioning cylinders used. Industry: Wood Products System: Carriage Knee control systems with slabbers Axis #: 3-5 Valve: Servo or Proportional Description: Primary log breakdown.
